Exciting times at Oakwood

30/ 7/2008

Wilmslow Hockey Club are looking forward to the new season with great excitement as they kick-off an ambitious club development plan.

The Oakwood Farm club is aiming for increased player numbers and league promotions.

At the heart of the plan is the signing of new coach Dave Egerton who brings an impressive playing and coaching CV.

He’ll be bringing his experience of national league hockey with Bowdon, international hockey with England A and coaching with university and club teams to improve the playing standard across the club.

Dave will have a key role in the restructuring of the training sessions, input into team selections and an important contribution on match days.

Although primarily working with the men’s first team, Dave will help the current coaching team, to raise the coaching standards across the club.

Already Wilmslow have attracted some new faces as a result of this work and hope it will lead to many more. They are always looking for new members of all ages and abilities and coaching sessions are to begin next month.

In September, they are hoping to gain Sport England accreditation that demonstrates good working practices throughout.

Training and home matches all take place on the new astroturf pitch at Wilmslow Phoenix Sports Club on Styal Road.

The men’s first team sessions begin on Wednesday, August 13 at 7pm, with the Under-16s starting from September 3. Women’s and over-11s girl’s training takes place on Tuesdays from August 5. The Under-11s begins on August 26.
