Get ready for a holiday party

20/ 8/2008

IT IS TIME to party in the street...

The annual Wilmslow Street Party, due to go ahead on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, promises to be the community event of the year.

Now an annual fixture on the calendar families are expected to flock to Grove Street to support participating charities and enjoy some colourful street entertainment.

A crowd of 2000 enjoyed last year’s event and organisers are hoping for another record turn out.

Wilmslow Lions organiser Khumi Burton said: "It is non profitmaking and brings the whole community together to raise money for good causes.

"There was a brilliant carnival spirit last year so lets hope the sun is shining and everyone turns out."

In its sixth year more charities than ever before are involved and entertainment is lined up for a spectacular day out.

To make sure the Bank Holiday goes with a swing for all the family there is a rolling programme from 11am-4pm.

Top of the bill are the Dixieland Hot Shots who are due to give two performances and Michelle from Dance Fever is certain to get feet tapping and hips swaying.

A special welcome is being reserved for a team of Vietnamese students who will perform the Lion Dance and Ria Munshi will be in the spotlight as she performs an Indian dance routine.

Street entertainers have been booked to mingle with the crowds of spectators and DJ Daren Cox will set the tempo playing a magical mix of chart and classic pop favourites.

And for the kids Knutsford Lions are to be on the street manning a fun train ride.

Trade stands will be selling their wares as well as volunteers at 27 charity stalls.

Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Thelma Jackson is due on the rostrum at 1pm to welcome visitors following a speech by Wilmslow Lion’s president Christine Munro.
