EXPRESS APPEAL: Sign up for the Midnight Walk

SIR NICHOLAS Winterton is calling on Maxonians to put sleep on hold for one night only in aid of the East Cheshire Hospice.

The charity is running its first-ever midnight walk on Saturday, September 13, and the Silk Town MP wants night owls to sign up now for the fun event.

The walk, following a 10km route which passes the hospice itself, will start and finish at the Tytherington Club, and aims to raise more than £35,000.

All funds will go directly towards the hospice’s £2.5million ‘Caring for our Future’ appeal.

Sir Nick said: "East Cheshire Hospice provides very special care to local people.

"We’re calling on everyone to sign up for the midnight walk and help make sure this wonderful local cause can look to the future with confidence."

Less than a quarter of the hospice’s running costs are paid for by the Government.

It must raise at least £5,000 every day to keeps its doors open and provide free care for patients with life threatening illnesses.

Chief executive Jayne Bessant said: "We are very excited about this event and what it will enable us to secure for the future of the hospice.

"Our new building development will greatly enhance the care we can provide for our patients and their families.

"We hope that everyone in the region will join us, have a fun night and support this important local cause."
