Salary scandal

Vic Barlow
11/ 6/2008

WHAT'S the appropriate salary for a Prime Minister running the fourth largest economy in the world with a population of 60 million? You’ll be interested to know that Gordon Brown earns £189,994.

Now, what would you say was a fair salary for the chief executive of the new East Cheshire Authority responsible for running HALF a county with a total population of 990,000?

Would you believe me if I said £173K which is precisely the salary being offered by the new authority? The current chief exec for the WHOLE of Cheshire doesn't receive that. Imagine how inflationary that figure is going to be on the appointment of other officers and what happens if the chief exec’s role goes to Vivienne Horton, MBC’s current incumbent, reported to be earning £100,000? While town hall staff are made redundant, does she pocket a 75 per cent increase?

Wasn’t that the whole reason for change to save taxpayers’ money? The ink hasn’t dried and already they’re inflating the top salaries.

So, look councillors, before you start justifying this ludicrous salary, credit us with some intelligence. Try advertising the post for the current £100K and see how many good applicants you get. I’m sure you’ll get all of the current contingent and then some.

Don’t demean the new authority before it takes office by indulging in the snout-in-trough antics of our members of Parliament. This is a REAL chance for new beginning; an opportunity to regain some much needed credibility. Don’t ruin it by greed.

Times are hard families are struggling, town hall workers are facing a very uncertain future. Stop this idiotic move now before you blow all credibility.

what has nicholas Winterton done for the constituents of Macclesfield. For the last four years he has refused to meet me to present him with evidence and to discuss the anomily in the planning departments refusal to grant planning permission for affordable housing on a derelict brownfield site in Bollington.Yet turns a blind eye to a five million pound executive housing development in the heart of the cheshire Green Belt for Viscount Ashbrook, where not one building stands within a mile radius of the development.Where lies your priorities Mr.Winterton.Affordable housing for the working class or lining the pockets of the affluent Cheshire set.I think we know the answer.Carry on collecting your 30,000.peices of silver while you can,as the good people of Macclesfield will certainly get rid of you at the next election (if you have the nerve to stand again).

According to the IMF and the World Bank, the fourth largest economy in the world is China.
