Our roadworks are simply child's play

YOU COULD be forgiven for thinking that the Moss Lane, Park Lane, Ivy Road area of Macclesfield is a work experience scheme for aspiring civil engineers who haven’t yet left school.

After months of disruption, we now learn that the Flower Pot junction is not complete, causing more frustrating rush-hour delays while county engineers finally introduce a right turn filter on Ivy Road.

Earlier today I followed a huge Henshaw’s truck up Moss Lane. In order to turn left at Oxford Road, the driver had to swing into the path of the oncoming traffic.

Extensive work was carried out at this junction only last year, but instead of reconfiguring the junction to enable commercial vehicles to turn without endangering other traffic, they planted a landscape garden. (If you don’t believe me, check it out.)

Now it could be that I’m completely stupid and just don’t see the benefits to be gained from trees and stout wooden fencing at a dangerous junction.

It could be that forcing huge trucks into the path of oncoming traffic has some hidden merit I have yet to embrace.

It could be that a £500K improvement scheme to the Ivy Road junction doesn’t actually need a right hand filter, or it could just be that a bunch of GCSE kids on work experience are having a laugh at our expense.

Can you think of any other logical conclusion?

You could, of course, simply ask the Council why this has been done like that
