Bessie Matthew

CHOIR member at Central Methodist Church, Bacup, Mrs Bessie Matthew, of Walnut Street, Bacup, died at Fairfield Hospital, Bury, last Wednesday, aged 85.

In her younger days she worked at Stebbing Slipper Works and also worked at Harry Howards Printers, Todmorden Road, Bacup.

Mrs Matthew leaves her son Melvyn, daughter-in-law Maureen, three grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Her funeral was yesterday (Thursday) when the Rev Jan Nendick led a service at Central Methodist Church at 1.15pm before cremation at Burnley at 2.20pm. Donations were accepted for the Stroke Association c/o funeral director: Graham Holt for Knight and Boys Funeral Service, Stacksteads.
